Factors which can reduce the high bounce rate of a website

June 22nd, 2009

Bounce rate is nothing but the percentage or number of website visitors who leave the website directly from the webpage they entered the website without clicking through links and not visiting any other webpage of the website.

Factors which can reduce the high bounce rate of a website are as follows:

1. Using proper keywords: The keywords used on the webpage should be related to the content the webpage is having and should be free of unwanted and lengthy key phrases. The webpage should not be stuffed with excess keywords. Keyword research should be done in a correct manner and only the attractive keywords which are having high traffic volume and lesser competition should be used on the webpage.

2. Meta Tag: Proper title and description should be used in the Meta tag of the webpage which is written based on the keywords of that particular webpage.

3. Website Design:  The website should be free of drowsy flash and animation work. There should be no jumping characters and should not create confusions among website visitors. Attractive colors should be used in designing the website which is light and good for vision.

4. Using proper anchor text on an inbound link: The website which is offering an inbound link to your website should use proper anchor text to link to your website instead of using some unrelated words as anchor text.

5. Website Content: The content of the website should be as fresh as a daisy. New content should get added up to the website now and then. The content of the website should be related to the topic or the category of the website it belongs to and should be informative to the website visitors.

6. PPC Ads:  PPC ads should be placed under the correct category to which the website belongs to.

7. Website Navigation: The website navigation should be free of loops, should be search engine and user friendly. Easy navigation makes a visitor to spend more time on the website he/she has visited.

8. Back-End: The webpage should be free of any kind of warning messages and should not show up some back-end program coding instead of the content. The webpage should be free of pop-ups and forcibly induced ads.
