Google extends its Internet Bus route to Karnataka state

May 14th, 2009

As I had expected, Google people have made up their mind to cover the entire stretch of India with their internet bus project. This is really a good plan to educate the rural population of India which is also known as sub-continent because of its vast landscape, excellent cultural and traditional background and for its 10,000 years of history and civilization. I said it to be a good move from Google because India being the 2nd largest densely populated country in the world and the world’s largest democracy by headcount, it can become a strong base for Google’s internet market next to, outside USA.

It’s an excellent way to create a pool of people who can become a strong client’s base collectively or the followers of Google products. In the sense, Google is trying to market its products to Indian’s in the name of creating awareness about internet in India. Even if 1/4th of India’s population becomes internet savvy, it would be a big success story from Google’s perspective.

This is truly an excellent marketing strategy by Google being a search engine market topper and a world renowned leader in Search Engine Optimization strategies. Now after covering Tamil Nadu state Google’s internet bus has entered the Karnataka state whose capital being Bangalore city the IT-Capital of India, where almost all the big players of global IT sector are having R&D centers and most of the top decisions of the global IT community are taken here.

It would have been even more an excellent move if this project would have been inaugurated and launched from Bangalore, which would have given an excellent opening for this project as the focus of entire global IT community would have been diverted on this project. But, even now it’s not a bad idea by Google to educate the rural community of a state where in Internet usage is less popular compared to a state where IT industry is in its peak time. For this good cause Google should be appreciated first.

The route of Google internet bus in Karnataka is as follows:

  • 04 May Kolar
  • 06 May Mandya
  • 08 May Mysore
  • 13 May Bengaluru
  • 14 May Hassan
  • 17 May Arsikere
  • 18 May Shimoga
  • 21 May Bhadravati
  • 24 May Chikmanglur
  • 27 May Tumkur
  • 30 May Chitradurga
  • 02 Jun Davangere
  • 06 Jun Hubli-Dharwad
  • 11 Jun Belgaum
  • 15 Jun Gadag
  • 18 Jun Hospet

My personal opinion upon this project is that once the Project India is complete, it should be extended to other developing countries like China, and other SAARC nations. If this project gets extended to other Asian and African underdeveloped countries where Internet itself is something from outer world, it would make a big difference to the next generation.
