Google Wave: A real time collaboration and communication platform

Google Wave is a real time collaboration and communication platform. Google Wave combines IMs, Wikis, E-Mails, Social Networking, e.t.c, as a one single web browser collaboration and communication plug-in. Google Wave is due to release later this year.

Google Wave has many features, out of those few are listed below:

1. Build own applications: Users can build their own applications within Google Wave that can range from a small script to perform a particular task to an online game.

2. Wiki Features: Anyone can rewrite or edit a document written on Google Wave by someone else.

3. Sharing Files with Drag & Drop method: Drag a file and drop it inside Google Wave and everyone can access it.

4. Embedded System: Google Wave can be embedded on any blog or website.

5. Playback Action: One can playback any part of Google Wave to check the previously done task.

6. Real Time system: You can see what someone else is typing.

7. Open Source Project: Google Wave is an open source application.

Google Wave uses its own vocabulary. So, there is a need to understand meaning of those terms used by Google Wave, as an example, few is listed below:

1. Robots: They are automated participants within a Wave. They can interact with users and as well as a wave. They can provide information from outside sources. They can check content within a wave and perform actions based on those information’s.

2. Gadgets: It is an application users can build using Google’s open source platform.

3. Documents: It refers to the actual characters, words and files associated with Wave.

4. Wave: A specific threaded of conversation. It can include just one person or a conversation between a group of users or even including robots.

5. Extensions: It is an application that you can play with while using Wave.
